Ruins

A few days ago, I was able to travel to Stonehenge with my supervisor and team. Upon seeing Stonehenge, I was attracted to the massive blocks of stone like a moth to a bright light. It was truly a ruin full of mystery and beauty. I saw a young man playing guitar and singing in a different language- it sounded like Swedish. I listened to him sing and felt a sense of connectedness to him. I had no idea what he was singing about but he was so happy. Stonehenge to me was one of those dwelling places. You know those places where you can just seep into the earth and totally feel God's presence? I felt like I was a new tooth sinking into the gums of the earth. I could have stayed there for hours. As I was listening to the guy playing guitar and feeling awestruck at the indescribable history that was right in front of me, I was overwhelmed with the idea of God's vastness. There are plenty of theories about how and why the massive
rocks were placed where they are. It reminded me how we all travel down different paths. We face different mountains, valleys and vulnerablities to the environment around us. Our pack may be light or it may be packed full with burden, regret or longing. We may pile up theories to try and understand God but our understanding of God's greatness is so miniscule. Really, these theories can sometimes become like heavy rocks that we carry around in our packs. It's such an amazing realization when we can lighten our load by releasing the rocks that have been weighing us down. The only way we are able to release those burdens and "heavy rocks" is through Jesus Christ dying on the cross for us. That reminder is something I am beyond grateful for.

I have been made a glorious ruin through Christ.
